# commencing discipline: Mathematics focus, charting the courses

mapping the terrain of the field, searching for maps. I want to see the over-arching interrelations and possible ways of derivation, deduction. I dont well memorize arbitrary steps for calculating, unless I understand WHY. give me proof. why why, go back, way back, spiralling down, deep abstraction generality. how does it make sense? where does this come from? start at “the” foundations? concept map of set theory: no results found. well, here are some beginnings: we’re only two miles offshore yet and these are the differing drawings we’ve dug up from the interlibrary:
